Its that time of the year….Holiday parties, Thanksgiving Dinners, Indian Festivals/Weddings & so much more that makes it absolutely necessary for you to have a quick & appealing Makeup routine handy!

As a woman of color, I always invest time in finding the right shades for me & regardless, you should too! I would highly recommend  trying on the products before you buy them as you are are basically buying food for your skin & ensuring quality is of utmost importance. The makeup experts in stores are usually available to suggest shades & try them on you as you like but you can always request samples if you don’t have a lot of time on your hand (But hey! Who doesn’t have time to buy Makeup, right?!).

Here is my guide to a makeup regime thats quick, effective, long lasting & makes social gatherings so much easier 😉

A Clean Canvas

To create something spectacular, you need to start fresh!! In the video above, I removed my existing makeup using Lancome Makeup remover you but can always wash your face with a face wash and use a toner. Make sure your face is completely free of any makeup/lotion before you start the makeup. Here are some recommended Makeup removers & Toners:

Moisturizing
Never miss this step!! It is imperative to hydrate your skin to ensure that its makeup ready. Moisturizers vary based on skin types and sometimes with seasons too! I always go for extra hydration moisturizers in Winters (Specially, in the dry Minnesotan winter) & go a level down during rest of the months (still hydration ones though). Also, look for SPF coverage for daytime moisturizers to protect your skin from UV rays. I use Lancome again but some of the good ones that I have tried are below:

Primer
While I did say makeup acts like food for your skin, you don’t want the skin eating it all too fast &, also need to protect that skin from the unhealthy carbs! Primer acts as a layer between your skin and makeup products, and enhances longevity of your makeup, thereby making touch ups rare and easy! My absolute favorite Primer is from Smashbox & I usually get the small/travel packs for the sake of convenience. Here are some other Primers:

Concealer
Always go a shade lighter than your foundation for the concealer as it helps to hide blemishes, redness & darkness below the eyes. Dap a little bit on the the areas that need coverage and merge well, you should see an immediate difference! I haven’t tried a whole lot of concealers (trust me if it works for you, you’ll stick to it), here are some recommended ones:

(I use NW25 shade)

(I use Honey shade)

Foundation
Just as its name, it defines the base of your makeup and needs to be applied in correct proportion to ensure coverage and at the same time, not give you a cakey look! The selection highly depends on your skin type, for example if you have dry skin, look for creamy formulas & for oily skin, look for mineral oil free options. I use a slightly wet Beauty Blender to apply my foundation. My favorites listed here for y’all:

(I use 350 Bisque Shade)

(I use NW25)

Setting Powder, Highlighter & Blush
A setting powder is indispensable to your makeup regime! It makes sure you get that youthful & fresh look and sets your makeup in place. I usually use highlighters only for parties and avoid them on a daily basis as I use a shimmery one!  I use a traditional rose pink blush from Lancome as a finishing touch to my makeup!

(I use 350 Bisque shade)

(I use NW25 shade)

(I use Aplum shade)

(I use this for Blush too)

Eye Makeup
Make sure you apply concealer over your eyes to give it a base before starting the eye makeup. I start with a nude shade and follow it up with the shade I need for the look. You can always go with darker edges and smoky eyes but I tried to keep it simple and quick in the video. I use Loreal liquid eye and love it specially for how its tip is designed and so easy to apply. Finish up the eye makeup with some Kohl/Kajal, Mascara (along with primer) & eyebrows with an eyebrow pencil that matches the color of your brows!

Lancome Eye Shadow Brush

Lipstick
Finally the shade of your lipstick is what gives your look a sassy pop and you really should choose the tones that complement your skin & as they say, when in doubt, try it on 😉 I used the Laura Mercier Vermillion Red shade in the above video. I usually use Matte finish in my daily routine and Liquid Lipsticks for events as they last  relatively longer for me!

This makeup routine will get you ready for social gatherings and parties in less than 15 minutes & you’ll walk outta that door like a queen ❤️ I tried to keep this short but happy to answer any questions on my Instagram!

Until next time….xoxo
