What to pack in the Hospital Bag
This has been one of the most asked about Blog Post & I’m glad that I’m able to get this out before I go into labor 😀 Sharing almost everything that I’m packing and will share what did we end up using the most and least once we’re back from the Hospital. I’ve categorized everything based on what’s essential for the Mom, Dad, Baby and some general things including nurse gift baskets. You can find all the product details Here.
For the Mom
- FridaMom Postpartum Kit – Includes Ice packs, disposable underwear, peri bottle, cooling wipes, Anti Slip Socks , labor gown and more – Did not use in the Hospital but used it after coming Home ( The hospital had all of these & I didn’t really open my kit as you wouldn’t have the energy to do so. I did use my own labor gown but that wasn’t from this kit. )
- Frida Disposable Underwear – Included in postpartum kit above but I ordered extras – Did not use in the Hospital but used it after coming Home (Used the ones that Hospital provided)
- Labor Gowns – If you don’t want to wear the ones that the Hospital provides, I’ve linked some great ones Here. – Yes
- Maxi Sanitary pads – Did not use in the Hospital but used it after coming Home (Used the ones that Hospital provided)
- Tucks for Pain Management – Did not use in the Hospital but used it after coming Home (Used the ones that Hospital provided)
- Dermoplast Pain Spray – Did not use
- Anti slip socks (1 pair included in Frida Postpartum kit) – Did not use (Used the ones that Hospital provided)
- Nursing Bras – Yes
- Breast Pump – You should be able to get this through your Insurance – Used in the Hospital (Hospital also provides it if you don’t want to carry yours)
- Nursing pads – Disposables ones are the best for the Hospital – Did not use ( You may not be making enough milk initially to leak)
- Nipple balm – Yes
- Breast Therapy packs – Did not use in the Hospital but used it after coming Home
- Comfortable Leggings/PJs – Did not use (Stayed in my gowns mostly)
- Nursing top and Cardigan/Scarf (based on weather) – Did not use (Hospitals are warm & I stayed in my gowns throughout)
- Coming Home Outfit – Yes
- Comfy Robe – Did not use
- Toiletries – Travel size Shampoo, conditioner, dryer, mini straightener, dry shampoo, lip balm, face wash, face cream, body lotion, combs etc. – Used in the Hospital
- Makeup Essentials – Yes
- Bath & Hand towel – Yes
- Bathroom Slipper –Yes
- Comfy slippers for the room – Yes
- Prenatal Vitamins – Yes
- Stool Softener – Hospital should have this but I’m taking a small bottle myself. – Did not use (Used the ones that Hospital provided)
- A Pillow & a blanket – Some hospitals may not have the most comfortable pillows and blankets, so its best to carry your own – Did not use the Pillows but used Blankets
For the Baby
Most of the Hospitals provide supplies for the Baby and it really depends on person to person on how much they want to carry for the Baby. Below are the things I am carrying and please note that Hospitals have plenty of diapers and wipes, so definitely don’t carry them.
- 3-4 comfortable outfits, preferably onsies (make sure to wash them beforehand) – Yes
- Swaddle blanket – Did not use (Used the ones that Hospital provided)
- A baby blanket, especially for winter babies – Used while coming home in the Car Seat
- Birth Announcement sign, if you have one – Yes
- Pacifier – Did not use
- A small night light – Did not use
- Baby Shusher or White Noise portable Machine – Yes
- Car Seat – Yes
- Car seat cover (For Winter babies) – Yes
For the Dad/Supporting person
- 2 comfortable outfits including PJs & sweaters as needed – Yes
- Slippers – Yes
- Toiletries – Shampoo, Deodorant , Toothbrush & paste etc. – Yes
- Bath & Hand Towel – Yes
- Earphones/Airpods – No
- Coming Home Outfit – Yes
- Any medications that they might need – Yes
- A Pillow, Sheet & blanket – Some hospitals may not have the most comfortable pillows and blankets, so its best to carry your own – Did not use the Pillows but used Blankets
General/ Miscellaneous
- Birth Plan – Yes
- ID cards for both you and your partner – Yes
- Insurance Cards – Yes
- Cord Banking Kit (If opting for it) – Yes
- Cooler for Placenta encapsulation (If opting for it) – Did not use as the placenta was small and the Doctor recommended sending it to the lab for analysis to ensure we are aware of any issues for future pregnancies
- Tripod – Yes
- Camera (You can always use phone as well on a Tripod) – Yes
- Phone Chargers – Yes
- Extra long phone charging cable or an extension cord – Yes
- Portable Phone Charger – No
- Snacks – Carry quick snacks like protein bars, salty snacks, homemade snacks etc.- Yes
- List of people to text for labor & Birth announcement – Yes
Nurse Gift baskets
This is totally upto an individual but if you’re looking for some Nurse gift basket ideas, here are a few things you can add to it-
- Mini Skin care products like hand lotions, lip balms, hand sanitizers etc.
- Hair pins, Hair ties, mini combs
- Quick & healthy Snacks like pretzel bites, nuts, protein bars etc.
- Sippers or Cups for hot & cold beverages
- Chocolates
- Mini Travel essentials kit
